Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Asidisi Mass Media Scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
- Professional Status: Must be a journalist matching the classifications outlined in Extraordinary Gazette No. 2413/44 (dated 05.12.2024) with a minimum of two years of service.
- Media Accreditation: Applicants must hold a valid Media Accreditation Card for the year 2025/2026 issued by the Department of Government Information.
- Age Bracket: Candidates must be between 18 and 55 years old by the closing date of applications.
- Course Selection: The applicant must already be selected for, or currently following, a media-related course at a stipulated institution. Eligible programs range from short-term certificates to Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees.
- Past Beneficiaries: Reapplicants who previously received this scholarship must have successfully completed the course funded under the prior scheme.
Approved Subjects & Fields of Study
Funding is permitted for courses covering the following media and cross-disciplinary subjects:
- Mass Communication
- Technical Subjects (Video Editing, Audio Production, Social Media Management, Web Content Creation, Multimedia Production)
- Data Journalism
- Languages (Sinhala, Tamil, and English only)
- Supporting Disciplines (Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations, Law, Disaster Management, Criminology)
Note: Other media-related subjects may be considered subject to approval by the Secretary.
Financial Structure & Funding Limits
The scholarship provides tiered financial aid depending on the type of qualification you pursue:
- Doctorate (Ph.D.): Rs. 700,000
- Masters, Bachelor’s, and General Degrees: Up to a maximum of Rs. 350,000
- Postgraduate Diplomas, Diplomas, Long-Term & Short-Term Certificate Courses: Up to a maximum of Rs. 200,000
The ministry distributes funds in instalments. Selected journalists receive 50% of the course fee at the start of the program, 25% as a second installment, and the remaining 25% upon submitting the completion certificate. Successful applicants must sign an agreement with the Ministry and begin their course within six months.
