New Maximum Prices of Essential Medicines – Effective From November 2025

The Ministry of Health has taken steps to impose strict price controls and regulations on 350 types of medicines, says Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.

The Minister stated that this step will enable consumers to obtain medicines at a reasonable price. The new step marks a significant change in the pharmaceutical supply sector in Sri Lanka. Accordingly, he said, this decision has made it possible to significantly reduce the prices of several medicines currently available in the market.

Meanwhile, this has also made it possible to curb unfair profiteering and prevent arbitrary price increases. He also stated that the pharmaceutical trade will be monitored to ensure that essential medicines are easily available to the public. Accordingly, the Minister further stated that this price control mechanism is an important step in strengthening the country’s pharmaceutical policy.
