NDT Admission 2026/2027 - University of Moratuwa ITUM Applications Open

The Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa (ITUM), calls for applications for the National Diploma in Technology (NDT) Admission 2026/2027.

The NDT program is a three-year full-time course offered by the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa, Diyagama, Homagama. The curriculum is administered in the English language and comprises two years of academic study and one year of industrial training.

The G.C.E. Advanced Level qualifications are the minimum requirements for eligibility to apply for admission to the intake of 2026/2027.

NDT Courses Available for 2026/2027

The National Diploma in Technology program is provided in two primary subjects of study.

Set 1 – Maritime Studies Courses

  • Marine Engineering Technology
  • Nautical Studies

Set 2 – Other Fields of Study

  • Chemical Engineering Technology
  • Civil Engineering Technology
  • Electrical Engineering Technology
  • Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering Technology
  • Information Technology
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Polymer Technology
  • Textile & Clothing Technology

Applicants may apply for Set 1, Set 2, or both sets according to their preferred field of study.

NDT 2026/2027 Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should be under 24 years of age on 31 December 2025.

Preference will be given to applicants under the age of 20 as of December 31, 2025, for admission to Marine Engineering Technology and Nautical Studies. Candidates for these maritime sectors would also have to pass a particular medical test and interview.

Candidates already registered as full-time students of a university under the University Grants Commission, other than the Open University of Sri Lanka, or other higher educational institutes under the Ministry of Higher Education are not eligible to apply

Educational Qualifications

Applicants should have obtained passes in the following three subjects at one and the same sitting of the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in 2023, 2024 or 2025:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Combined Mathematics or Higher Mathematics

Candidates applying for Marine Engineering Technology and Nautical Studies should also have obtained a Credit Pass (C) in English Language at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination.

Selection Method

Selection to the NDT program will be based on performance in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination and an aptitude exam administered by the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa.

Selected candidates will be those who pass the aptitude test and will be ranked according to the G.C.E. Advanced Level Z-Scores.

The selection will be based on merit quota 40% and district quota 60%.

The allocation of study fields will be determined by the marks of the aptitude test and the order of preference in the application.

How to Apply for NDT Admission 2026/2027

Prospective applicants must first apply online through the official ITUM online application portal.

After completing the online application, candidates should download the system-generated printable copy of the application.

The printed application must next be certified as per the instructions given in the official application form.

The duly completed hard copy should be sent by registered post to:

Clearly write the words “NDT Admission – 2026/2027” on the top left-hand corner of the envelope.

The closing date applies to the submission of the hard copy as well as the online application. Failure to meet both conditions may result in the rejection of your application.

Application Fee

The application fee is

  • Rs. 1,000 for Set 1 or Set 2
  • Rs. 1,200 for applicants applying for both Set 1 and Set 2

The payment should be made to the Bank of Ceylon account provided in the official notice on behalf of the Institute of Technology, University of Moratuwa.

A scanned copy of the payment slip should be uploaded together with the online application, and a copy of the original payment slip should be submitted with the paper copy of the application.

Application fees are non-refundable.

NDT Application Closing Date 2026

The deadline for applications to NDT 2026/2027 is 19 October 2026.

It is the responsibility of the applicants to guarantee that the institute receives the online application and the printed hard copy by the closing date.

Important Information for Selected Candidates

Candidates selected for admission will be asked to produce the originals of necessary credentials at the time of registration, including the G.C.E. Advanced Level certificate, Z-Score certificate, school leaving certificate, and birth certificate.

Applicants are advised to read the official notice and application guidelines carefully before applying, particularly when choosing the field of study and preference order.
