The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Sri Lanka has released official guidelines for student registration and downloading selection letters for the Academic Year 2025/2026. If you have been selected for a course of study at a state university, following the proper procedure is essential to secure your admission smoothly.

Overview of UGC Online Registration Process

Step 1: Accessing the UGC Portal

Visit the official UGC website at www.ugc.ac.lk. On the homepage, locate the University Registrations 2025/2026 section where you will find two primary options:

To download the Letter of Selection & proceed to registration:

• Select this if you have not yet downloaded your selection documents.

To directly proceed to registration:

Select this if you have already downloaded Annex I, Annex II, and your selection letter.

Step 2: Login and Identity Verification

1. Enter the User ID (your registered email) and Password used when submitting your initial university application. Use the “Forgot Password” link if recovery is required.
2. Complete your National Identity Card (NIC) number by filling in the remaining digits.
3. Verify the pre-filled mobile number by completing the missing four digits.
4. Click the Submit button to move to OTP verification.

Step 3: Email Link and Mobile OTP Verification

1. Check the inbox of your registered email address for a message from the Department of University Admissions.
2. Click on the link titled Please click here to generate OTP inside the email.
3. An OTP code will be sent to your verified mobile number via SMS.
4. Enter the code into the SMS Code box on the OTP Verification page and click Submit.

Step 4: Downloading Selection Documents and Registration

Once authenticated, you will be directed to the Selection Letters page. Download your selection letter along with Annex I and Annex II as a combined file. Carefully read all instructions before clicking Click here to go to the Registration System to complete your university registration online.
