A special investigation for those who posted scholarship question papers on Facebook

The Examinations Department has started a special investigation regarding the distribution of the question papers of this year’s scholarship examination through social media. The Commissioner General of Examinations, Mr. Amit Jayasundara, said that action will be taken against the groups involved in the illegal act.

The Commissioner General of Examinations said that although the confidentiality of the examination was not harmed by releasing the question papers on social media after the examination, it could affect the mental state of the children.

The grade five scholarship exam was held yesterday (15) at 2888 centers across the island. Three hundred thirty seven thousand nine hundred and fifty six candidates appeared for that examination. The department says that the examination papers were released on social media two hours before the end of the examination. The first paper number 61313 and the second paper number 218013 were released two hours after the end of the scholarship examination yesterday.

Examination papers are confidential documents belonging to the examination department until the results are out after completion of an examination and their disclosure before that is a punishable offence. Such a law has been introduced with the aim of preventing the tendency of private tuition teachers to publicly discuss the question papers and criticize good and bad things after the exam is over.
